Thank-you Australian Government ….

Today a family tax benefit payment landed into my bank account – as it’s done regularly each fortnight for the past few years.   I said my normal silent prayer of thanks and juggled the funds around in my accounts to make sure we had money for after school activities, bills and food – as you do.  And then, maybe because of the beautiful sunshine and fresh spring feel that is in the air today, I took a moment to think just how lucky I am to live in Australia.

I know it’s fashionable  to bag the Government for all of their  mistakes and the serious underfunding of many meaningful and worthy things – especially now that the nation is in pre-election mode.   But what about all the good they do?   I live in a country where all of my basic needs are more than catered for – do you?

I unashamedly used the public system for the pre and post-natal care of all three of my girls – and here in Ballarat it was wonderful.   I was cared for, educated and well looked after each time.  And it didn’t cost me a cent.    And to top it off I’ve been able to use my family tax benefit  to allow me to stay home full-time with my girls until they headed off to school.  (Well apart from the one year I worked.)

I am honestly so grateful for all of the  help and support my family has received because we live in this awesome country.   I know those who lead us  don’t always get things right and some people’s lives are harder than they should have to be.  But if we’re honest you have to admit that sometimes they do and it makes our lives fuller, richer and happier.   Do you think that maybe living in such a well supported country has led to such high expectations that we forget just how good we have it?

thank-you

Anyhoo I just wanted to say ‘thank-you’ in a very bi-partisan way to all the political powers that be  for supporting me to choose to be home with my children.   I know the systems not one hundred  per-cent perfect and there is always room for improvement – but for what we do have I am so grateful.

Dealing with all these people and complying with the paperwork are usually time-consuming.
They are the ( attorneys in San Antonio ( and they can also help
you process your claim with insurance companies. If
you are familiar with any other attorney who practices in another area,
you can always ask him for referral of an auto accident law firm.

We have dealt with cases for anything from auto accidents to
staff comp to defective items. The best way
to avoid this is to ask to see the fee agreement in writing, before you agree to
anything. Many people will become frustrated looking at something extremely challenging,
but this is expected most of the time.

Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is important and all. Nevertheless think about if you added some great
images or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent
but with images and clips, this website could certainly be one of the greatest in its field.
Wonderful blog!

I have been surfing online greater than 3 hours nowadays, but I never discovered any attention-grabbing article like yours.
It’s beautiful price sufficient for me. In my view, if all web owners
and bloggers made good content as you did, the net can be a lot more helpful than ever before.

What a great post! It is so easy to see the negatives, particularly, as you say, right now as we watch the two main parties bag each other out as maliciously as they can.

But we are so lucky. Both my sister and my stepfather had major surgery for bowel cancer this year, one emergency and one not, but both under the public system. My sister’s experience was not so great, and we did all wonder how different it might have been if she’d had private health insurance. But, she’s still alive and well and she didn’t have to go into debt. The system is far from perfect, but it is still an amazing thing.

I am so in agreement. I am really tired of the Opposition harping on about the budget crisis. There is very little to worry about. We are the envy of the world for our economy! We are so taken care of and have so much to be thankful for.
I thank our current government for that.

We forget how lucky we are. I, too, am grateful every fortnight for my pension and the FTB, as it’s helped me through becoming a sole parent without income and now it’s helping me build my business. I have friends in Poland who get no welfare at all, no matter their circumstances and I shudder at the harshness of their way of life.

Exactly! When you think about the fact that every Australian is in the richest 10percent of the world’s population you are reminded we are very luck!

I’m standing up and applauding you Caz. It’s so true. After living in a developing country that didn’t function, I almost kissed the Australian soil whenever I flew home. We do whinge about our country’s government, and even though I have no clue who I’ll be voting for next month, I am truly grateful for a functioning government. Yes, we could always do better, but we could also do far, far worse!

Great post. xx

Thanks Kymmie 🙂 Yes you must have some amazing stories to tell. I have no idea who I will vote for either. It almost seems like it’s more about personality than policies these days. But all in all we still have a wonderful country.

Hey Caz, yes lots of stories to tell about life in PNG and living in an Aboriginal community. I’m still telling them and will do until the day I die!

I wanted to let you know that I loved this article so much, I shared it on Facebook with my friends. You’re an inspiration! (I also tried to tell you this on Google + but it never seems to let me comment on your page). Security tight??

Hope you’re well! x

So true Caz. A lot of bagging has been going on about the changes to the Parenting Payment for Single Mums but I don’t know where I’d be without it. They’ve made this provision for me and many others whose husbands/partners don’t want to be responsible for their wives/partners and children. I’m truly grateful to be given this hand out especially when I was first separated. I’m only just finding out about all of the other benefits that go with it. I think we’re very lucky.

We are all very lucky to have so much. I do think that are pensioners pretty much get the raw prawn in all of this and I would happily see some funds from parenting/families redirected to our older Australians who often have no choice to work due to old age or being frail, but this is not a post on who deserves more I know. Just, while we are being thankful, I can’t help but recognise not all in our society are maybe given what they need to live comfortably.

Very true Claire 🙂 (Although my own mum lives on a single pension and somehow manges to save money – I have no idea how she does it!) But generally speaking I do agree – they deserve better. (See I found you)

Ive always said exactly the same thing. Im forever grateful that thanks to family benefits etc, I was able to stay home and raise my kids….and once I was a single parent after an upsetting family split, was also able to support my family with the Governments help until they had grown up enough for me to be able to rejoin the workforce. Truly grateful, as you are, to live in Australia.
