I love these photos. They’re all me. I don’t remember them being taken but I remember everything in them with amazing clarity. This is the world of my childhood – growing up on our farm.
The photos only came to my attention a little while back when my brother started uploaded all of my mums old slides onto his computer. We didn’t get dressed up or take photos a lot of the farm - so the cute blue ribbon in my hair must have meant something special was going on.
The horse was our Australian Pony ‘Vicky’ bought when I was 18 months old. She was a constant and enduring part of my childhood and died the week of my Swot Vac before my VCE exams. My mind holds many amazing memories of riding her bareback across the paddocks and feeding her grass and carrots through the fences. She was one of my best childhood friends.
Each little things in the background of these photos is like walking back inside my memory. The drums and sheds and even the look of the ground. It’s all the world I grew up in. Even the daggy seventies clothes make me feel right at home!
This last one is my favourite. My Dad is leaning out of his workshop for a cuddle and my big-sister is beside me. Two of the biggest loves of my life. Loves that I was to lose way to early. I cannot see my face but I’m sure it’s smiling. Do you have photos that take you right back to childhood?
