Reclaiming my make-up bag.

This is a  sponsored post for Target

Way back when, before three little pink people came and took over my life, I used to be a regular user of beauty products.   I have distant memories of waking up in the morning refreshed, after a solid nights sleep, and faffing around in my clean organised bathroom with powders, potions  and paints designed to make me look fabulous.     I even used to spend quality time actually styling my hair –  imagine that!

But over the past eight years things have been very different.     When I stumble out of bed in the morning, generally after an interrupted nights sleep, I set straight to work organising the lives of my girls – with little to no thought about how I look.    If  they’re lucky I’ll have run a brush through my hair before I come out. Such is the life of a mumma to little people!

But there comes a time in every mamma’s life when you have to start thinking about yourself again.   To reclaim some time to spend on YOU and remember how it  felt to put  your own needs and appearance first.    Now that my littlest is at kinder for fifteen hours a week that time has come for me.   (She says as her emotions flail wildly between ecstatic happy dance and tearful pity-party.)   So this week I found myself wandering leisurely around Target’s Beauty Department checking out  their Beauty Sale.   To be totally honest I’d pretty much forgot it existed – after all it’s on the opposite side of the shop to the kids clothes and toys!

So what did I find during my wander?  Well first off  I should tell you I’d totally forgotten how indulgent it feels to mooch around leisurely looking at beauty products.  (Nothing like dashing in for 20 seconds to grab what you need and dragging the kids to the checkout before they touch something they shouldn’t!)   If you haven’t done it for a while you really should think about giving it a go.  Lipsticks, perfume, hand-creams and nail-polishes are awesomely relaxing - especially when  you’ve got a little time to spend with them. I did however notice that colours have changed A LOT in the past eight years.  So I’m guessing I’ve got some catching up to do.   And by the way who knew false eye-lashes were in?

I came home with a collection of  little treasures to bolster my dwindling bathroom beauty supplies.  Some pretty nude nail polish for my toes and some lovely L’Oreal prouducts.  But my favourite is my new Phillips  pink  hair straightener.    Loving how easy it is to use and how quickly it takes me from messy curls to sleek and soft.    I love the look of my hair straight – but the process to get there, not so much.     This one is so much hotter and quicker than my old mini-straighter.  Can’t help but love that!

Does  your beauty bag need some reclaiming?   What one item would you go out and buy right now if you had the child-free time to do it?

I’m so glad you took the time to treat yourself. I was, still am really hopeless with make up, the equal delightful treat for me would be wandering around all sorts of cake tins, and gadgets for my kitchen draws. Friends would say that’s sad, but I loved it. Please feel free to tell me mind my own business now [just not too rudely]but if you can, please take some time out to spoil and treat yourselves. I somehow got it in my head, that it was my role to be everything to everyone, and it wasn’t until my children were much older that it started to click, that if I looked after me better, I would do better. even as I started to figure that out, I’d still not give myself permission to do it. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a Mum,[ours are now grown] I loved being a day care mum, but for some reason I got it in my head that f I wasn’t last on the list, I somehow wasn’t getting my job right. I honestly don’t know if anyone had said this to me when ours were little I’d have listened, but just wanted to put in my two bobs worth. Please try to give yourselves some you time.

Thanks Dawn :) My natural inclination is similar to yours – but I’m training myself to understand exactly what you just said. It’s actually really hard to do. Appreciate the advice Dawn :)

Id definitely agree with you on the rushing side of things, these type of jobs are not ones that should be rushed at all, they need to be done at a slow pace and you need to take everything in. Dont buy beauty products in a rush, its just not the way to do things!

So agree Kayla. You have to take your time and make the right choices.

It’s all about the nail polish for me – I stick to clean & short with clear polish, but if I had more time I’d have long lovely nails in the latest colours and do long pampering at home manicures :)

Awesome. I’m like you. I never frequent that area anymore unless all of a sudden I realise I’m about to go to a wedding and I have no mascara because I haven’t used any in so long!

The one thing that I would pop in my makeup bag is bronzer. I ran out forever go and never bought it again even though I used it all the time!

I need some new lipstick…..have been scraping the bottom of my current one for a few days now, so I think it’s time to go shopping. I like the sound of your nude nail polish too. :-)

I love nude toe tails at the moment. No idea why – but it just looks awesome. Hope you find some lovely lippy …. nothing makes you feel wonderful like the right lipstick!

:) we all need some pampering and ‘me time’.
So glad you found some time and got some special things.

If I was to get myself one thing …… it would be some new lip balm ……

:) Carly

Oh I do love a good quality lip balm. Unfortunately my big girl does too!! She’s forever stealing mine from my handbag. Perhaps it’s time I bought her one for herself hey.
(Thanks Carly :) )
