And now for the local weather report…..

rain rain rain

There was a little bit of rain here yesterday.  (Yeah – just a tad!)    Late in the afternoon the heavens opened and it thundered and pelted down for forty odd minutes.  We’ve had very little rain here this year – so it caused a bit of a stir.   Warnings flashed up on my Facebook feed about large hail and flooding as the dark clouds gathered above us.   (Lucky for me I got the washing on off the line minutes before it started – always a reason to celebrate.)

The poor old dogs live on our back decking and their kennels got totally flooded out as the gutters overflowed with cascading waterfalls of rain.   They sat hunched up in the corner  of their house with frightened eyes waiting for the onslaught to stop.  Poor wet puppy dogs – never a good look on the hound front.

The girls and I watched out the window as magpies were forced to land and sit forlornly on the ground unable to fly against the force of the rain fall.   Can’t have been much fun for them being pelted without shelter.   As it grew heavier and heavier the girls ventured out onto the decking to experience the assault on their senses from the mammoth thumping sound and the site of water splattering absolutely everywhere.

But then the rain passed as the thunder started to recede, sounding more and more distant.  The birds came out and the usual warbling began again.   The dogs ventured out from their kennel and started to sniff the ground in anticipation of all of the new wet smells.   Heavy rain had washed away the summer dust and freshness was everywhere.   The smell of water on parched ground – is there anything more intoxicating?  Sometimes a good storm is exactly what you need in life.

Hows the weather at your place?

I love a good storm! Especially after a hot, sweltering day!
The other night there was thunder and lightening – the lightening was so loud and close, the whole house shook! Loved it! :)

So it’s been raining here on the Gold Coast for the past 4 days and set to last for another 5 – over it. But I admit it does freshen the stuffy air – although I love storms more than days of showers :) Emily

I love the smell of rain in the air – it is rather intoxicating Caz! I just wish the weather up my way would make up it’s mind either way, I’m sick of the rain followed by the heat – just make up your mind already…

Yeah I hear you there. That’s one good thing about Victoria – summer heat is not constant! Hope all is well Kirsty – haven’t caught up with you for ages.

Oh year, I remember doing that as a kid. Wonder why my kids have never thought of a raining nudie run?

By the time it got to our place, the storm lost a lot of its fury, but we still got a good dose of rain, badly needed by the parched lawn. And the thunder was quite deafening.

Wasn’t it all kinds of awesome. We must have got the full thrust of it – it was really quiet a show. But probably wouldn’t have been so keen if I didn’t have my washing in ;)

Nothing like a big storm to freshen everything up! How are your little chicks going? They don’t stay little for long :-)

Well out of the 8 eggs we got 4 live chicks. One died within 24 hours (sad faces all around) and then another simply disappeared about 3 weeks ago (more sad faces). So we have two that are now nearly 6 weeks only. Just waiting to see if they’re boys or girls. And yes they already look like mini chooks -not chickens. Couldn’t believe how quickly they developed.
