You know those nights when you’ve forgotten to get the meat out of the freezer – or your just so plain exhausted from the daily battle to juggle life in the mummyhood. Those are the nights this crazy mama declares it Crazy Tea time. It’s actually become a bit of a tradition here – one we get a bit excited about. I’ve even bought special Crazy Tea plates and bowls – because a little bit of crazy is something to be celebrated.
How to make a Crazy Tea:
Step one. Open the pantry door and select a random variety of easily available food that you’d never usually consider putting together on a plate. Step Two. Open the fridge door and repeat step one. Arrange your collections on crazy plates. (Depending on my energy levels I’ll usually make a little salad bowl for each plate – just to make myself feel a little less guilty.) Step three: Think of somewhere crazy for the kids to eat. Maybe even outside – so you don’t have the under-table clean up to worry about either. Step Four: Congratulate yourself - tea is done for another night.
NB: Your other half may not react quiet and excitedly when presented with crazy tea. Refer him to Freezer Meals.
Do you have a stable easy night in tea for the kids? What’s your secret for crazy Mama nights? Maybe you could adapt ours to suit your own family and come up with a new tradition. Life is all about making memories that will last a life-time.

Awesome! Love all the colours. Totally going to steal this idea from you. Pesto pasta and baked beans are our go to meals when I can’t be bothered. The kids love to whiz up the baked beans a la Matt Presston from Masterchef

This a fab idea Caz. Great for using up those bits and bobs that hang around in the pantry and fridge too!
I like how you say at the end about making memories… I am sure your pinks will be talking about crazy teas for a very long time. xx

This absolutely fabulous Caz, I LOVE IT! Your crazy tea looks delicious and nutritious and so colourful. Just lovely. I really like the idea of crazy tea time… because I totally relate to those days when you’re just OVER spending ages preparing a meal. I guess our Fri & Sat nights are a bit crazy… though they’re mainly take away nights. Thanks for this Caz xo
Pleasure Julie, it’s been a total life saver for me. And interesting I was talking to my big girl (8) today about starting to learn to make meals. Her first suggestion was learning to make crazy tea

A fantastic idea for littlies..love your ‘crazy’ plates too! When they get a bit bigger you can start ‘help yourself’ dinners… much the same, except they do it themselves. These are still resorted to in our house of grown up kids.

You know, now that it’s going to be daylight savings next week, eating outside for dinner will be an awesome idea! And you’ve reminded me…I need to get more crazy plates from K-mart!

The husband doesn’t cook so Brinner (breakfast for dinner) is my go-to for lazy dinners. Usually pancakes – bacon & maple syrup all over the top for both the husband and child, spinach & sweetcorn mixed into the batter for me.

When I was younger our lazy dinner nights were things like pancakes, jaffles, or canned soup and I LOVED it. It was awesome to eat something that wasn’t the boring old meat and 3 veg. But then I married an Italian, and to him dinner is the most important meal of the day, and there is NO SUCH THING as a crazy or lazy tea! It’s heartbreaking, it truly is. If we don’t have meat he’ll whip up a batch of fried rice or vegetarian risotto or resort to a freezer meal. I have convinced him on one or 2 occasions to give our boys things like boiled eggs, baked beans and toast for dinner, but he’ll still cook something for himself. Loser.

I love your crazy tea. Can I bring my kids over next time?

But a husband that cooks is a gift too. Wow – how awesome would that be. Mine doesn’t go beyond toast or maybe spaghetti bol – if he’s pushed. Total lack of enthusiasm for cooking on the male’s behalf in these part. But, alas yes, there is something wonderful about crazy, lazy easy teas.
thanks for visiting.
