I love getting cards in the mail. How awesome does it feel when someone takes the time out of their busy day to buy and then write out a handwritten message to you – that will arrive in a real life mailbox? To me that says so much more than a quick email or facebook message. Unfortunately though I think card sending might be a dying art and that makes me sad. I want to start my own one woman campaign to bring back the joy of sending and receiving cards in the mail. I know, it takes more time and means you have to be a little more organised, but aren’t our friends and family worth it? Come on peoples – let’s send cards
I had already started thinking these card related thoughts when Hallmark contacted me last week and asked if I’d review their newly relaunched interactive cards. Seemed just a little serendipitous! And these Hallmark cards are very cool. They have kept my three little pink people pretty well entertained for the past few days. (Actually I’ve had to hide them away so they don’t completely flatten the card batteries!). Every card in the range does something interactive - be it singing, dancing, lighting up when you blow on it or popping up and surprising you. I actually made my first ever bloggy video to show them off a bit. Unfortunately my camera batter died before I finished but I was so dang proud of myself I’m posting it anyways!
To encourage some more card sending Hallmark have given The Truth About Mummy two beautiful card packs to giveaway. Both have a selection of cards from the interactive range, the licensed Disney range, the polka-dots range, and classic range, as well as a double forever friends CD featuring tracks from The Script, Michael Buble, Delta Goodrem and many others, and a Hallmark recordable storybook. How good is that? The pack is valued at over $115 and should give you around about a years worth of cards. To enter follow these three simple steps:
- Leave a comment below telling me who you would send a card to this week and why? (And feel free to actually go do it – let’s keep card sending alive and well my friends!)
- If you are nice enough to share this giveaway on facebook or twitter please feel free to leave a second entry comment.
- Follow The Truth About Mummy in any way you like (facebook, twitter, email or reader feed)
- Giveaway is open until Midnight 6th of July, 2012 and has a total value of $230.
- (Check the T&C tab for full T&C).
- Disclaimer: I received a 10 pack of interactive Hallmark Cards for completing this review.

Thanks for the blog post. Thanks Again. Really Great.
My son Paul. He’s away working in the Northern Territory and its his 30th birthday. A big 0 birthday really requires a special card!
I would start by sending a card each to all my beautiful girlfriends, who bring so many laughs and joy into my life. Just to let them know how much they all mean to me.
I’d send a Thank You card to my aunty, for the beautiful cushion she bought my delightful 2 year old daughter (a very girly-girl amongst 3 brothers!)
Shared on Facebook — I’m your newest liker there!
I’ll send a card to my nan, I’m sure she’d love to hear from me and I get so many from her it would be a nice change!
I’ve been watching the hunky single neighbour gardening shirtless in his backyard. I want to make an impression, so I’ll send him a card.
He can’t run away because I know his address…I’ll spy from my window so he won’t stress, but I will walk about in my best dress, with one shoulder showing and let him guess the rest.
I’m a huge fan of snail mail and still send letters and cards to friends all the time. This week I’m sending a card to a very dear friend of mine to mark her son Avery’s first birthday next week. Avery is no longer with us, so it’s a very emotional card to send.

I love cards and send them to family in UK, but this week, i would send one to my lovely singing teacher who has taught me to go from being unable to sing a note to now singing’ I Dreamed a Dream’. I cannot thank him enough:)
I’d send a card to encourage my beautiful daughter who is studying so hard for her exams!
To my gorgeous boyfriend who lives 1000kms away from me… to tell him that I love him
I would send a card to my daughter Emma, as aged 4 is always harping to me as to why she doesn’t get bills and letters in the mail
I think a card would be better than the bills.
I would send a card to my dad who lives overseas and isn’t able to afford to come and visit. He hasn’t met my 19 month old daughter yet and I’m due with my 2nd baby at the end of the year. I would like to send him a card to let him know I love and miss him and to share our latest ultrasound pic with him.
Following you on FB.
I would send a beautiful card to myself.
Because if I don’t, I will never get any! It is very sad but true. I follow you via Facebook.

I’d send a card to my daughter-in-law, son and their new baby girl Loretta, tiny sister for Charlotte.
I love receiving cards … this week I’ve sent a Birthday card to a dear friend of mine, haven’t seen her for 5 years as she lives overseas now. But I can imagine her face when she received it … I love a personal touch!
My Granddaughters Birth – She was born with CMV, I spent the first 3 weeks of her life, traveling backwards & forwards to the hospital.
Birthday Card – Daughters friends’ 40th birthday, she’s going through a hard patch & needs to be shown that we’re all thinking of her.
Life is too short to not tell the people in your life that you love them – I love to write cards and send to the people that have made my life beautiful …..I would send a card to my Mother- In-Law who is always so kind and loving to me and has shown me the real way to live. Be kind and humble.
To my daughter in law..thank you for having us while we visited..and for letting us take your baby girl for rides in her pram!
I have some gorgeous friends that I would love to send a card or two too. Not forgetting my family members who mean so much to me.
I would send a card to my dad, he lives in another state and as much as I would love to give him a big hug (he just had surgery to remove a sun carcer from near his eye) I can’t, so a card will have to do.
I would definitely have to send a card to my Mum. I always get so caught up in the day to day activities and chasing after my son that I feel I neglect to let her know how important she is to us and how much we appreciate her. A card can express words far more elequently than I can express. I fumble with my words.
Following on Facebook, where I also shared x
To my Mum: to express how incredibly proud I am of her of how she prepared a beautiful service for my Nan’s funeral two weeks ago. And how thankful I am to have such an incredible family who delivers endless support.
My brother in-law and my niece as it is his birthday tomorrow and hers was Tuesday
I was thinking of sending birthday cards to my own children this year – they are always asking if the mail is for them and it never is!
My gorgeous husband who won an award with his studies. He would be stoked.
To a good friend just to say hi thinking of you love you lots as to much tim has passed by
I would love to send a card to my mum, Just to let her know how much, i appreciate everything she has done for me ♥
I only get to see my nieces once a year, and each time I do they’ve grown that much taller and more intelligent, but it takes them a while to warm back up to me again, before they’re climbing all over me and demanding I don’t leave.
I’d love to send something to them to remind them I still exist out here in the world and I’m thinking of them, so it’s that bit easier when we unite again.
I love sending and receiving cards, I always keep the cards that i have received over the years especially the cards I received for my baby shower and the birth of my daughter. I have kept every single card my daughter has received all for her 9 years. I am known amongst family and friends the person who give cards. It doesn’t have to be for birthdays it might be a thinking of you card or graduation or moving house. Any reason I can think of I give cards. I always give cards at Christmas time and I usual send them all of the 1st December as I have my labels ready every year as I usually send out loads. People feel special when they receive cards.
Hi Jayne, congratulations as you’ve just won one of the Hallmark Card packs on my blog. Can you email me an address to have it sent out to. I hope you love the pack and thanks so much for entering. Cheers Caz.
THANKS I cant wait to receive them i have emailed you my detials.
I would send them all off to all my gorgeous sisters, I have 5 of them and although we live in different states and some countries we love to keep the family tradition of actual real letters on top of our constant facebook and email contact. Last year for their birthdays they already received a musical hallmark card from me and loved them so Ive started a tradition that will be continued forever as we try and out do each other on extra special cards
I’d send a card to my Dad. He just had major heart surgery yesterday and as a very fit and healthy man the need for surgery shocked us all. Sometimes I think we forget to tell people just how much they mean to us, so I’d love to do that by card as a nice surprise.

I will send a card to my mum who has moved from our home town as a ‘just because’ card with messages from the grandkids and photos enclosed. If I won, I would send her the whole pack for when she needs to send a card. smiles and thanks for the chance.

xo
I would send a card to my Nanna. She doesn’t have email or mobile phone so snail mail is the way to go for her
I am so bad at sending cards that one year my mum bought me a box of cards and gift wrap. The box had sections for different types of cards for different occasions. I have done better this year.
This week I would/will send a card to my little sister. She has moved interstate from all of us, hours away. She is living with her husbands family, just got a new job and is doing so well. So I would send a card that says congratulations coz she has achieved so much and I love you coz I love and miss her.

My Husband’s Grandfather passed away this week, aged a wonderful 95 years. I will give a Hallmark card to my Husband’s 91 year old Grandmother. Hopefully, it will say what I would like to say, but may not be able to in person… And if she is not ready to read it now, she will when she is ready to… A lovely man, at rest now…
I’d send a card to my sister-in-law, I forget her birthday every year – I know it’s in July (the exact date I’m still unsure of) if I had a card handy I’d have no excuse not to send one!
i think i might just send a card to myself….it’s been a crazy week!
Me me me. Pick me. I love handwriting letters to people, especially randomly when they are not expecting it.
A new group of cards could possibly go all out in the one week!
Oh I love sending cards and love love love getting them in the mail. I’d send one to all the mums in my mums group – because they deserve that happy feeling you get when you pull a beautiful coloured envelope out of the mailbox with your name on it. Love it

My son’s autistic, and one of his daily routines is checking the mail. He gets uber excited when a letter comes with his name on it (rare). He will be very excited when I send a card to him!!

I would send a card to my parents to tell them how much I love them, which they wouldn’t be expecting, as I only live five mins away. I think I will do this actually, they deserve it!
I’m a newsletter subscriber.
My daughter. She’s gone off to uni and I miss her terribly.
I’d send a card to my mother,
She was like no other,
But her address I don’t know,
To Heaven it’s gotta go!
I have been thinking a lot about a particular friend recently, which means that she probably would appreciate a special card from me. I love the gracious art of a handwritten note.
Despite the celebrations, it’s lonely being in London by yourself… A surprise card to my daughter would be so much more special than a email.
I would send a card to my grandsons back home in WA as they are both young enough to have rarely seen or received a handwritten card sent for no reason other than to say ‘Thinking of you’
Love the concept of these cards too. Tank you for sharing the opportunity with us :-}
I am such a slack person – I hardly ever send cards to anyone. Actually I cant rmember the last time that I did send a card?
This week I want to send a card to Trish from My little Drummer Boys and to Lauren Fisher for her sweet baby Elijah Rainbow xxx

I’m very grateful and am actually planning to write her a letter and include some photos of the kids too, I hope she’ll enjoy it!

To my little niece fo her birthday,

Different gifts every time,
Her smile is divine!
The postman comes…my faces lights up something good today…a card.
Excitement, ripping open the envelope…there it is my sister telling me she cares and even sends photos of her family.
Cards are not a thing of the past; we have become careless, with the, it doesn’t matter syndrome.
Send an email…but how many have we all be guilty of just deleting them.
A card is a pick-me -up: Not Fattening, and leaves a happy feeling.
My mum, its her birthday in two weeks and I always try to make her feel extra special.
My mum. I haven’t sent her a card in a long time (I’ve been a bit of a bad daughter lately). It would make her day to get some snail mail.
My sister! She’s studying medicine interstate, and while the rest of the family are within a couple of hours and easy to catch up with, we hardly see her. I miss her, and she deserves to know!
I love sending cards! Sometimes even to my friends or inlaws in town. Its just always exciting to get mail. No reason is the best reason, just to say “I love you and appreciate you”.
I would send my friend in Melbourne a card to say thank you for helping my son when he had a problem. I was too far away but she just stepped in and did it without being asked.
I would send my eldest daughter a lovely card just to let her know I miss her. She lives quite a long way from us and we don’t get to see her enough.
I would send a card to our family friends who recently lost their mother/grandmother to breast cancer. I think receiving a nice card in the mail would make them feel loved.

My grandparents are lovely people and I only hope that when I have grandkids they will write to me.
I send a card at four times a month to my niece who lives overseas because she loves going to the letterbox and getting mail, it is such a treat and something special that bonds the two of us.

I am sending a thank you card to my Mum and Step Dad tomorrow as they have lent me the money to get new glasses that I badly need. Being on a disibility pension means not much money to buy anything so was kind of my Mum to lend me the money. They are old age pensioners so no better off than me. I love finding a nice card and sending it off for thank you’s, birthdays etc.

This week is actually my sisters birthday so it would be more than appropriate to be sending wishes in a card with her gift!
Love to send a card to my mother. I would have my children sing in a recordable card so she could not just read it over and over but listen to her grandchildren singing Happy Birthday to her all year round.
There is nothing better than receiving an unexpected card in the mail – such a great way to brighten someone’s day. Thanks for the reminder – I will send some out this week I think!
I’ve been sending prayers and virtual hugs to Trish of My Little Drummer Boys. I was a great admirer before, but now she has become a very important part of my day. Including the fact that I’ve been getting very friendly with my breasts.
I have not send an actual card, but with this timely prompt I will.
My cousin in Poland. We are pen-pals and we still write old fashioned letters to each other even though we both have email. She would love and appreciate a beautiful card.
I would send one to my parents after a falling out over two years ago we are talking again lifes to short to hold a grudge
My mum. I haven’t sent her a card since mobile phones, email and Facebook came into our lives.
Christmas seems to be the only time I send cards. I need to get my kids to send a card to their Great Grandmother.

I love card sending and receiving is even better! Those interactive cards are to die for. I just laughed my head off at the hula dancer! I’d send my mum that one as she’s find it as funny as me and it would cheer her up – she’s been a bit down lately! Things that make her laugh are great because she doesn’t put them away but keeps going back to them when a pick me up is needed!
As for the Hallmark pack, well if I won I’d be matching each card up to someone I knew and sending it off to brighten their day!!!
I love the joy I get from receiving a card in the mail (snail mail that is) I feel it is much more personal than those computer generated cards/messages or generic messages you can send to all those in your contact list at a nano seconds notice!
There is definitely something special about the physical properties of the card, the ability to pick it up and read it, display it and even treasure it for years. Just last week I found all my 18th and 21st birthday cards (from over 20 years ago) and read them all one by one – what memories it all brought back of people I hadn’t seen or thought of for years!!!
I’m with you Caz – BRING BACK THE JOY OF CARDS!!!
Hi Rachel, congratulations as you’ve just won one of the Hallmark Card packs on my blog. Can you email me an address to have it sent out to. I hope you love the pack and thanks so much for entering. Cheers Caz.

My mum, which I will be doing as it is her birthday this week. I also like to encourage my daughters to make cards for people’s birthdays and we send them along with drawings and recent photos.
I’d send a card to my mum and tell her how good a mum she is, because I’ve never told her and I forgot Mother’s Day this year!
My Dad – which isn’t really anything new as I often send him cards. He doesn’t have email (or a computer for that matter – he thinks they give him fleas!) so letters and cards are my favourite way to communicate with him!
My boyfriend – he’s a real “Draw Card’ for me and i just want to say how special you are!

I will send a card to my teenage daughter. With technology today, she rarely has had the pleasure and excitement of going to the mail box and discovering a personal card or letter addressed to her. I am sure she will be pretty chuffed to sit down with a coffee and read all the news and gossip from back home and maybe feel a bit weepy or joyous of the goings on back in her home town
oh so many possibilities!

Lots of little ones having birthdays, too far away for a hug
A dear friend, so far away but always close at heart <3
A family member lost her job and needs a smile
A new little bundle about to arrive, a brand new start!
oh my goodness I could use the whole pack just today!
I would send a card to my best friend and sister who is about due for her 1st baby! She lives in Perth so I never get to see her!
I must admit I love sending or giving hand written cards- it’s so nice to get one in the post! I have three written to give to people this week- one is a thank you for my son’s birthday present, another is a birthday card to a friend at work and the third is a ‘thinking of you’ card for a lady whose Mum passed away a couple of months ago. (I sent a sympathy card at the time, but want her to know that I’m thinking of her now). A great prize and competition- keep the snail mail alive!
To my wife, to once again woo her with words from the heart. It will tickle her pink, to say the least.
Not would, but will be sending a birthday card to my Auntie Bev. She’s turning sweet 60…..not sexy 60 as she insists!! Card sending is yet to die in this house, we love that personal touch both sending and receiving them
My parents, to really surprise them with the news that they’re going to be grandparents again!!
Have shared on facebook..if my daugter enters and wins I can expect an extra card in the mail!
I follow The Truth about Mummy on facebook.
My daughter….and grandsons.
We started the ‘snail mail’ tradition when she left home..10 years later it continues. We have even been known to buy and send the exact same card at the same time, our letters passing each other on the way! Now my grandsons and I send ‘snail mail’ sometimes it is ‘silly snail mail’! and once the snails even ate it in the letterbox!
We do all the technical contact as well…phone, e-mail, skype but it is the weekly ‘What’s in the mailbox?’ that gets put on the fridge and looked at over and over again then put in each child’s memory box.
Even the envelopes get decorated with drawings and photos and the postie puts ‘Nanna’ letters on the doorstep if they are too big for the letterbox. (naughty nanna!)
I would send a card right now to my little 5yo grand-daughter, throwing up, miserable and very sick with some virus.
I miss my Princess and she just loves getting mail.
I follow The truth About Mummy on Facebook.
I would send a card to my BFF who has just moved interstate to give her son with a disability a better future. I miss her and I know she is lonely too. I am sure a lovely card in the mail will cheer her up
Who to send a card to…?
There are many people in my life to thank, and send a, “Get Well,” card to:
My husband who will be undergoing surgery later this week? The mother of a friend who is unwell? Another friend who is sick? My lovely next-door-neighbour who has done so much for her friends, family, and the community deserves a special, “Thank-you,” recognition? Or, the deployed ADF members who are currently spending time away from their loved ones?
There is always someone, somewhere, who is deserving of a card. That itself, is a Hallmark moment worth celebrating.

We live 2,000 km away from my parents so I’d send one to remind him that the kids and i are thinking of him when he’s missing out on all that golf while he’s recuperating
Already following TTAM on email and facebook.
Oh, this competition was made for me. I love cards and letters. My grandma was the best at sending letters and always sent a birthday card to arrive on your actual birthday. And I have lived interstate and overseas, she was truly remarkable. I want to continue her legacy.
My parents had always been pretty slack with letters and cards. However, my children wrote them some lovely letters with cute kids drawings and they sent postcards back! Not just postcards which had nice images but my dad has always told the kids funny stories of everyday life. While reading the postcards to the kids, it was like my dad was in the room with us. His words came to life. In his handwriting I could see his big, strong, brown left hand writing the words with a smile on his lips. These are images I do not conjure up while reading a text or an email.
Handwritten cards are something to treasure and keep. I will keep these words of my father’s and my children’s granddad on the fridge until the next one arrives. Then I will display them in a folder so the kids can reread them as they get older.
So this week my kids and I will be writing cards back to my parents, with smiles on our faces, thinking how much nanny and granddad will love their words and drawings.
Thanks Rosie

I still love to send a birthday card and even letters. My nana taught me that it’s important to thank people and keep them updated. Now we do it by email. But I still send out cards and really enjoy doing it. Especially the oldies that no nothing about computers/emails…it really makes there day. I send my nana pictures from my kids and photos that I print off. It doesn’t take much to make their day!!
This is something that I wish I was better at. Time to make it a priority! I would send a card to Trish from My Little Drummer Boys so she can add it to her vision board in hospital. In fact, I am sending her a card, regardless of whether I win or not. I’ve received a couple of cards lately and it was so lovely.
