It didn’t take long for me to realised just how important it is when you become a mum to have a present box. You know, that little box or bag you keep hidden away in your wardrobe filled with things that can be used as presents whenever the need arises. It’s turned out to be a god sent for me, especially as the girls are getting older and the party invites are starting to fill up way to much space on our fridge.
I started out keeping an eye out for the odd bargain priced toy or two that I knew would make a good pressie when the girls were toddlers. Back then it took a bit of effort to sneak things into the shopping trolley without the girls seeing and thinking it was for them – but somehow I managed to build myself up a collection and I’ve just never looked back.
To be honest these days I depend on it. The limited brain cells left in my mushy mummy mind sometimes don’t fire quick enough to remember to buy presents pre-party (let alone cards and wrapping paper!) Not that long ago I clearly remember standing in our lounge room minutes before loading the kids in the car to do the party drop off and realising I’d forgotten to organise the present! Yep – that’s me with another Mother of the Year performance! Just let me say thank goodness for that present box!
These days I still keep an eye out for great buys on sale (because thanks to my mum I love a great bargain) but I also have a two favourites that I just keep buying because they work so well and I know how much fun my girls have had with them over the years. I try to keep to price limits of $15 – $20 or under per present and with these I can usually achieve that. So they have my fun and affordable stamp of approval!
Little play doh kits are awesome value and I love knowing I’m giving something that will encourage creative play. We’ve had so much fun with playdoh in this house. I especially like the toy collections that relate to food preparation – as pretend cooking and playdoh just seem to fit together. A few weeks back I stumbled across a stack of these on sale at Officeworks for under $10.00 – gotta love that.

Colourific Craft Boxes I was introduced to Colourific range of craft activities through this blog and every product we’ve been sent has been a hit with my girls. They produce crafty products that girls just seem to love. The right combination of glitter, glitz and creativity to keep them engaged and smiling. I also like the fact the boxes come with age specifications, which make it easy to pick the right gift for the right kid, and that there is a good variety of different packs to choose from.
PS: As a little side note colourific recently sent us some awesome little Fairy Lites Mini craft packs to trial. Complete craft sessions sealed up in a bag. We got to make fridge magnets, bracelets, stickers and a headband. All four of us had way to much fun with the glitter, bling and pretty girly stuff and I’m sure some more of them will be finding their way into our present box pretty soon. They’re $4.99 each – making them a great add on to pressies for girls.
Colourific have given The Truth About Mummy three sets of Fairy Lites Minis for you to add to your pressie box – or to just enjoy with your own little people. The Giveaway is open from the 23/5/12 to the 4/6/12. There are three packs to be won each one valued at $15. To enter follow the steps below:

I love to give shopping vouchers as gifts and match the recipient to the appropriate store for their needs. Sometimes it’s a book shop or home ware shop and other times it could be clothes. That way the person can chose exactly what they want!
I love giving beauty vouchers to my gilfriends (waxing, facials, manicures, etc.). It’s so rarely we can afford pampering ourselves (no time or no money), I think it’s a great gift. I follow you on FB and e-mail, too.
I have shared, too.

I have a present box too. I buy little gifts as well as cards throughout the year to add to the box.
What I give depends on the age of the child but homemade colourful playdough is usually a big hit.

This post reminds me that my present cupboard is completely decimated and needs to be restocked
and I also need to find a new hiding spot for it as my girls have found it!!! We love to always include a book in the gift we are giving! Another favourite gift is new pencils and special colouring books or paper! Nothing like your own set of brand new pencils!!

When friends have babies, I make it my mission to find a picture book featuring a character with the child’s name as a gift – with online bookstores like The Book Depository’s easy searching, this is usually quite easy and it makes a thoughtful and personal gift!
I love giving hand made cards as presents. My family and friends love them as they are more personal and they know I have put alot of thought and care to make them ♥

I enjoy baking as I feel it’s part of me, so I give my family homemade cakes, biscuits, slices etc that I think reflects them and it’s from my heart and made with my own little hands
I like to give my daughters school friends my handmade hair clips as presents for their birthday
For family I love to give a fancy decorative photo frame with a photo of my kids for friends I often opt for chocolates and kids are usually happy to receive something where they can use their imagination.
I love to giveaway (as a present) something different. Something that cant be brought from anywhere. Maybe its a home-made gift item, or sold in a little shop so its not too common.
I also love giving Plants instead of flowers! Flowers die too quickly, but plants last a bit longer.
For little ones – I love giving Girls gorgeous dresses
and boys – anything that is for the sand pit!

I have a present box that I love to keep filled. I always manage to have loads of girl gifts, Barbies and Polly Pockets from the Matel warehouse sales….but never enough boys ones. So my standard stock boy gift is Lego sticker books (kmart $15) , a small Lego man or even a Lego DVD or something similar. If the kids are smaller…it’s the usually practical clothing..
Oh this post is just ME, Caz. I have a present box too… which has actually expanded over the years and now occupies TWO shelves of my wardrobe, no kidding. But I love it, because I pick up things on sale or two for one’s etc… and then I’ve ALWAYS got something when required.
Love playdough sets, they make fantastic gifts… even though a lot of Mama’s aren’t too keen on them, Oops! xo
I love to gift books, sometimes with a toy to go along with it or some crafty extras to go along with craft books.
Shared on FB and Twitter too
My new favourite go-to present is Lego. My mum always used to give books as a present.
It seems your present box is very useful to you nowadays. Your giveaways are nice to get; perfect for my kids.

I love to give books as a gift. I think books are a wonderful gift; they expand children’s imaginations and take them to places without even leaving their home! They are a brilliant source of entertainment. And best of all, they don’t require batteries!!!
I am also a fan on Facebook and have shared
As my daughter is 2 we love to give family and friends finger paintings and drawings that Charlie has drawn, or bubbles and if the gift is for an adult we give our homemade Tomato Relish or Onion and Chilli Marmalade which is always a hit.
