I’ve been trialling this little Solus Sunbeam Digital Iron for a couple of months now and I’m here to tell you that its fabulous.  I wouldn’t go so far as to tell you makes me enjoy ironing  (because frankly that’s just silly!)  but it really has made my job easier.  Now, I should confess that before the Solus came into my life  I was using a very old cranky leak pot of an  iron  that had probably well past its used by date.   Let’s just say it didn’t inspire me to a closer connection with my ironing board!

Okay – maybe it wasn’t really this bad :)

What I love most about my lovely new Solus, apart from the fact that it’s shiny and new, is its industrial strength steam shot.  Honestly, if you turn it up high you can fold up a doona cover and steam iron it 4 layers thick!   Now that kinda makes a gal  feel powerful!!

I also love that it has an auto turn off function.  No more having to come home twenty minutes into your day away to check that the husband turned the iron off.  (Not that that would ever happen here at Pink Central – no never *cough cough cough*.)   It also has digital push button temperature settings and an extra long cord.  I do love the way technology makes me feel better about things :)  But having said all that I guess what I really love the most about the Solus is that it truly irons well.  I’d have been happy to have paid the $129, which  is its  recommended retail value, myself knowing how much I like it.    If you are currently in the market for a new iron I’d be happy to recommend you try this one out.  It has my ironclad recommendation (yeah sorry about that one!).

Now, do  you have any tips you can share with me that actually make the whole ironing process more fun? Love to hear a few.  I did find this awesome post from Crash Test Mummy about making the laundry easier – but I need some more ironing tips!!

I have been looking around for one Caz – I’ll check it out next time I’m out and about. Ta much. Shell

  2. Thanks for the shout out Caz! It’s so funny that I don’t mention ironing in my ‘ultimate’ laundry survival guide. But I guess the emphasis is on ‘my’ – I don’t iron much! I do love a good steam shot though which ours has, but doesn’t sound as good as yours! Could I possibly have iron envy???? I think for me, having a lot of washing that needs to be folded and put away is a massive psychological block. Which is why I have four baskets waiting for me from before I started the new system. In the last two days I’ve folded 3 loads straight into the drawers without batting any eyelid! Different strokes for different folks. Now if I can just find some folks who want a TV date with my other 4 baskets . . .

Can they not just make an iron that does it for you????

Well that confirms it – even with a snazzy iron there is no true way to make ironing fun!
I’ve tried watching a DVD while ironing but after a long day, I’d rather be snuggled up on the couch with a glass of wine than standing up amid a cloud of steam (that is, if my iron actually produced steam anymore….irons stop doing that when your husbands drop them on the floor). :-)
Will definitely be looking at this iron when we upgrade.
